Lung Transplants
The world’s first successful human lung transplant was performed at The Toronto General Hospital, University Health Network in November 1983. There are currently 4 other hospitals in Canada with lung transplant programs located in Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Montreal. The success rate for lung transplants has increased dramatically since the first transplant in 1983 however it is still more risky than heart, liver or kidney transplants.
